Thank you for your interest in the USC Nanofab! The onboarding will differ depending on your affiliation; please follow the procedure below for either USC-internal, non-profit, or for-profit organizations.

  • Our lab coordinator is Emily Clough. Send all documention as requested to eclough@ usc dot edu.
  • Billing information is located at the Nanofab usage fees page.
  • If you would prefer to hire nanofabrication facility staff to perform processes on your behalf, please indicate this preference on the Docusign registration. All subsequent requirements for safety training are waived.

User classifications

  • Internal includes users affiliated with the University of Southern California (UPC and HSC), CHLA, and ISI.
  • Non-profit includes users affiliated with other academic institutions, non-profit organizations, and the government
  • For-profit includes all other users including start-up and industry members

Internal - USC user onboarding process

  1. Complete the new user questionnaire on Qualtrics.
  2. Complete the USC Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) General Lab Safety (GLS) Training course on the EHS website. This includes a computer-based training on Trojan Learn OR an in-person/Zoom training, AND a GLS Meet and Greet with EHS over Zoom.
    • After completing training, please email the GLS completion certificate to the lab coordinator.
  3. Register for cleanroom access on Docusign.
    • The lab coordinator will:
      1. Enter your information into the billing system
      2. Confirm access/billing information with your advisor
      3. Give you access to the facility via your USC card
  4. Request cleanroom safety training on Qualtrics. You will then be contacted by facility staff to arrange your training date and learn our lab-specific protocols.
  5. After the safety training, submit the cleanroom policy quiz on Qualtrics.

Non-profit / academic - External user onboarding process

  1. Complete the new user questionnaire on Qualtrics.
  2. Sign and submit the form Facilities use agreement form for nonprofit users to the lab coordinator.
  3. Register for cleanroom access on Docusign.
    • Multiple users from a single company or entity can be associated with a single registration as long as the billing point of contact is the same.
    • The lab coordinator will:
      1. Set up your account including assisting in completing requisite external user paperwork (confirming billing information/billing charge agreement and completing of the facilities use and fee agreement form).
      2. Give each individual an iVIP card which provides a user with a USC ID number, which is needed to get access to the building and the facility. The charge for this ID card is $5.
  4. Complete the USC Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) General Lab Safety (GLS) Training course on the EHS website. This includes a computer-based training on Trojan Learn OR an in-person/Zoom training, AND a GLS Meet and Greet with EHS over Zoom.
